Gerald Buten

Gerald Buten, one of three children, grew up in the Midwest where his family has been involved in real estate sales, investment and land development for over 50 years. After college and law school, he was admitted to the bar in Illinois, Ohio and the federal courts for the Northern District of Illinois. For 30 years, he worked for the United States Department of Justice in various cities throughout the country, including Cincinnati, Chicago, San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, Albuquerque, Detroit and Washington, D.C.

During his career with the government, he excelled at directing major projects and organizations, negotiating long-term productive relationships with disparate agencies at the local, state and federal level, and ensuring compliance with appropriate laws and ethical standards. As a senior executive with the Department of Justice, he had both national and international responsibilities.

Gerald Buten received The United States Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service in 1998, from Attorney General Janet Reno, for his contribution to a major national Civil Rights Investigation. He was a member of a three person group of Federal law enforcement executives from different agencies, who provided exceptional leadership in directing the National Church Arson Task Force investigations and prosecutions of the rash of arsons and bombings of African-American churches and other houses of worship throughout the Nation. Gerald Buten does not practice law in California, choosing instead to work in real estate sales and investment.

In 2003, Gerald Buten married Trinnique Low, a native Bay Area resident, and returned to his permanent residence in the River Oaks Village area of San Jose where he has been a homeowner for over ten years. Tiani Mily, their daughter was born in 2007. They enjoy family, community service, socializing, dining, golf, tennis, movies and music. He is currently president of the board of directors for the Villagio Condominium Homeowners Association and is knowledgeable regarding all the developments in the area.

In 2004, Gerald Buten joined John Chess, founder Remax/The Chessteam, specializing in residential real estate sales in the River Oaks Village and Rivermark areas. In 2010, he started his individual real estate business, remaining associated with Remax. Gerald Buten received his Broker's License and became a Broker Associate at Remax in 2012.
